Your Smoke Detector Experts
Metropolitan Electrical Contractors take safety seriously. When sleeping, you lose your sense of smell and could be caught unaware by a fire. That’s why we rely on smoke detectors to warn us and provide the time to escape a fire. They’re a legal requirement in every Australian home by the National Construction Code.
Smoke Alarm Installation
Before the installation of smoke alarms in your home, you should seek advice on regulations and maintenance requirements. It’s likely you will need to have it hardwired to your mains electric. With 25 years of experience, our team of trusted electricians will ensure you have the correct one for your home, including the installation of light and vibrating pads to assist the hearing impaired.
There are two main types of smoke detectors for home use:
- Ionisation smoke detectors: Containing a very small amount of radioactive material, they can essentially ‘smell’ the particles emitted in a fire, which makes them better for detecting fast flames, that don’t emit much visible smoke
- Photoelectric smoke detectors: Containing a photocell and light beam shining away from the cell, they can essentially ‘see’ smoke before it bursts into flames, making them more effective for slow burning or smouldering fires, often characteristic of house fires
