LED Installation Experts
LED lights are increasing in popularity across Australia and are becoming the new standard in lighting technology. LEDs (light emitting diodes) are energy efficient and powerful, producing impressive brightness from minimal wattage. LEDs use about 75% less energy than halogen light bulbs and last 5 to 10 times longer, meaning there’s savings to be had by fitting new light bulbs. The benefits of upgrading to LED lights include:
- Estimated lifespan of 25 years
- Energy Efficient
- Low running costs
- 100% recyclable
- Environmentally friendly
- Cooler to touch
- Range of colour temperatures
Metropolitan Electrical Contractors has a team of electricians local to your area who are available around the clock to install your new LED lights. Whether you’re looking to improve brightness or just make the home more energy efficient, our fully qualified tradespeople are available now!

Replacing Halogen Lights
Halogen lights are a common form of lighting that’s found in many Aussie homes. Along with incandescent and fluorescent bulbs (CFL), these lights formed the backbone of interior lighting for many decades. However, LED lights are now becoming the new standard and for a good reason.
According to Sustainability Victoria, LED bulbs use up to 75 per cent less energy than halogen and fluorescent lights and last up to 20 times longer. They are also brighter and have a lifespan of up to 25,000 hours before the bulbs need to be replaced. That’s the equivalent of 15-20 years of use.
Halogen lights feature a wire filament that heats until it glows. These bulbs are hot to the touch and can burn. LED lights remain cool to touch at all times, adding an extra element of safety to your household.
Here are the estimated running costs of each globe based on data provided by SA Gov:
- LED – $4.38 per year
- CFL – $7.30 per year
- Halogen – $29.20 per year
The above data is based on a 60w equivalent at a usage rate of 4 hours per day. LEDs do cost more upfront, but the energy saving benefits can be reaped for decades to come.
